This artwork is based upon photography

of  Duke Kahanamoku, Hawaii's greatest and most

famous Olympic athlete who helped make surfing an

internationally recognized sport.

I had the chance to briefly meet and shake his hand in the mid-60's

down by the Ala Wai  Harbor after he had just awoke from a

nap on the front seat of his red Lincoln Continental!

Duke Kahanamoku was Hawaii's best  ambassador and was a

really great and very likable guy. He also was in a number of early

movies and once also had the Honorary title of  sheriff of Honolulu.
